Portraits

I am experimenting with portraits, with an eye towards doing commissions. I'm hoping to offer something other than the typical, traditionally-painted art from a photo ( though I'm working on a piece in that category as well.)

The girl was drawn and colored in Photoshop (the final was printed on 12 x 18" toned paper and I added some hand-drawn touches.) The young boy is watercolor and graphite on Strathmore paper.

Sketchcards: Jonah Hex * Green Goblin * Loki

Card trade with the multi-talented (and also very patient) Oran Parker. He requested these three guys who all have toothy grins (or grimace, in the case of the cowboy.)

Markers, pencil, white, gold and silver paint and one of those sparkly colored gel markers. I had a lot of fun doing these; thanks, Oran! :)

Eh

An average of 30 people a day visit this blog... Silently they slip in, look around, then scurry off, leaving nothing behind. I'm wondering if this little thing has run its course.

Red Sonja x 2

Art commission done for my wonderful, comic-loving accountant, who makes tax time bearable.

Pencil, marker, ink, some digital stuff, white paint and silver marker (which, sadly, doesn't scan well.)

Gone Wired Sketch 'n' Kvetch

My friend Diana and I have been meeting regularly at local coffee hangout, Gone Wired, for a few hours of whining, complaining, and sketching. Very therapeutic. We draw whatever's on the table that night--various toys, magazine covers, giant flies...there's always something.

Power Girl

I did this for my husband's birthday. Absolutely positively 100% analog--no fancy-shmancy Photoshop stuff, for a change.

I used markers, white paint and a bit of colored pencil on bristol. Scary as hell working without that digital net! I tried to keep it really loose, like a convention sketch-type thing. I see a lot of things I would like to fix, and I wish I'd been a bit bolder with color, especially the shadow, but--eh, it's done and he likes it, so I'm happy. :)

Pencil and marker drawing, with added enhancements in Photoshop.

Self. Portrait. Vector. Color.

More fun learning stuff, like how to get the brushes to do what I want them to, in Illustrator. From a boring photo of yours truly.

Bond-Bond-Buffy

Artist trading cards, requested by the talented Wynn Ryder.

I haven't trimmed them yet, and I kind of like the way they look, so I decided to scan them before cutting them down to 2.5 x 3.5".

These were great fun to do—I actually had no idea how much I would like working in a small format.

New Stuff

The nude is pencil with watercolor.

The middle piece is ink with digital color (using photo reference courtesy of janejayne)

The gal with the silly earrings is vector, from a scribble I did while on the phone one day.

GED Success Program Project

I did a pro bono job for the GED Success Program last month: key fob, poster and shirts. Fun, and for a good cause: to promote a workshop and encourage female students to shake off the stupid stereotype that they can't 'do math.'

Red Dancer

Acrylic, ink, pencil on mat board. Trying to stretch a bit.

I'm amazed that my many-decades-old acrylics haven't completely dried up!

Portraits ( Jessica)

Two pencil drawings with watercolor added. Reference: faestock at deviantArt.

Catalog Models

More drawing practice.

Facebook Faces

I grabbed some random photos from various Facebook photo albums and sketched them for drawing practice.

"We Like to Eat" Book Cover

One of the reasons I've neglected this blog (for six months!) is that I've been very, very busy at work (which is, of course, good.) It's not often I post anything from my graphic design business here, but this cover was notable for the fact that I was able to convince the client to use my vector illustrations on it rather than the stock photos that appear inside. Also, doing the illustrations allowed me to progress in my quest to be at least moderately proficient at Adobe Illustrator.
